Turning to China’s data, it painted a somewhat negative picture. The headline CPI for July slipped into negative territory for the first time since 2021. Additionally, July new loans fell well short of forecasts, marking the lowest level since 2009. This underwhelming lending data reflects weak demand for financing from the real economy. Some economists have raised concerns about a potential balance sheet recession.
