Fun facts about CryptoPunks
CryptoPunks is a collection of 10,000 24x24, 8-bit style NFTs inspired by the 70s London punk scene. They came about from an experiment in 2017 when Larva Labs (a 2-person team based in Canada) created a software program to randomly generate thousands of quirky and eccentric characters.
There are 6,039 male Punks and 3,840 female Punks - most are human but there are also 88 zombies, 24 apes, and 9 aliens. The rarest punk - CryptoPunk 635 - is the only alien punk to also have a sub-1000 series number. On May 11th 2021, it sold for a grand sum of $16,962,500 at Christie's in New York.
Interestingly, on March 2nd 2022, an anonymous individual donated Cryptopunk #5364 to the Ukraine government’s public wallet address to help fund their fight against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
